AR-15 History: The Evolution of the Modern Rifle
The AR-15 history begins in 1959 when ArmaLite, an American small arms engineering company, officially licensed the designs and trademarks to the AR-10 and the AR-15 to Colt, a long-standing firearms manufacturer established in 1836. In 1960 Colt introduced the semiautomatic rifle. The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, these weapons can be customized with specialty AR-15 parts and accessories and technological advancements in 3-D printing has made it possible for regular folks to create their own lower receivers that can be attached to rifle accessories, resulting in a fully functioning weapon.
